6-12 Months Old

It's hard to imagine... but an infant who can crawl can be in danger around water. Safe Start gives children as young as 6 months an extra measure of protection around water. The technique is straightforward.

Safe Introduction

Your child is gently introduced to the water by the instructor. As each child reacts differently, the instructor will work with your child to make him or her comfortable with the instructor in the pool. Once this level of trust is established, your child will begin to learn swim survival technique

Rollback to Float

Your child’s instructor will then safely guide your baby through the process of learning how to turn from face down in the water to floating on his or her back. During this skills training process, your child never remains face down for more than a few seconds, and your instructor is always right beside your child. Behaviorally, this can be compared to the experience your child had when he or she learned at home to roll from stomach to back as a much younger infant.

Gateway

Safe Start trained children learn to respect the water and to enjoy swimming. With the confidence they gain from Safe Start instruction, they are ready to learn more as their physical abilities increase.
